I've recently started a Steven Universe fanfic over on AO3, and it's basically a role reversal fic. Basically it diverges from canon once Rose's army wins the war; Rose Quartz and her army return to Homeworld and leave Earth to recover. Unknowingly, they have left Yellow Diamond, Jasper, Peridot, and their prisoner, Lapis alive.
The story takes place thousands of years after this and it follows Connie Parallel, who is the daughter of Yellow Diamond. 99% of the characters have been swapped with another, and it's basically a "what if Jasper, Lapis, and Peridot had to raise a human kid like the Crystal Gems" type of thing.

This sounds really cool!! I'd be so interested in reading this B) [has no idea how to tag on this site or anything] But basically, the role reversal is that while the characters' situations are switched, they retain their personalities; so in this case, Steven is the (very human) child of Greg Universe, a single parent who used to be a rockstar but now runs a chain of car washes around the town that Connie lives in. ...WAIT DOES THIS MEAN RENALDO IS A COOL KID. Because because if Renaldo = Cool Kid then...Lars (or Sadie?)...omg...
This role reversal thing could get so messy. But interesting.
