I've entered a game jam on a whim because my last (and first) game came out really nicely. That and all my other ideas are just piling up to be honest. The game jam, called FemiCon, has a theme of making essentially themed games based on a praised game designer's "surreal humor and a colorful alt-rock aesthetic" games (more info at link.) They're also supposed to be geared towards girls and be reminiscent of old games and the like from 1970-1990. The idea I am thinking of so far, and am tentatively developing, is four children have a slumber party. The time comes to midnight, or The Witching Hour, which is the perfect opportunity to tell ghost stories. I've planned for at least three different ghost stories to be told (one by each character, barring the main character since it's 2nd POV) and then the characters meet the ghost from the story with a variety of outcomes! (no children will be harmed. my one rule.) The truth is though I'm not sure what kind of ghost stories to tell! I'm also not sure if this ghost story at a slumber party theme is overdone or necessarily surreal enough to be a good candidate for the game jam, so I appreciate any and all feedback!

That sounds really cute. It sounds like a good idea if you do it right. Maybe you could do classic ghost stories, but give them a twist at the end? If it's targeted for kids, maybe the children would be able to outsmart the spirit in a few different ways?

I was actually thinking about there being an option for either fighting the ghost or befriending the ghost! but im not sure if that should be like for every ghost, or if only some ghosts could be friended and others only fought?

Ooh yeah befriending them is a good idea too! Maybe they have to choose which to do, and the consequences depend on their choice/how they do it. Some are too stubborn to be befriended while others are too smart/strong to be fought.

I just thought like Bloody Mary, but she ends up being more of a maternal, benevolent figure if you befriend her.
